Federation

2023 Annual Report
A Message from the
CEO & Board President
Looking back at 2023, we are proud of the many strides Federation of Organizations made in fulfillment of our mission to support and empower vulnerable members of our community. We added and expanded several programs and services to assist people with chronic illness, families and individuals living in poverty, and seniors aging in the community. We continued to take a strength-based perspective, focusing on ability rather than disability in supporting recovery from mental illness and substance use and community integration for people with disabilities. In total, our evidence-based programs and services improve the health and quality of life of more than 8,000 people annually in communities across Nassau, Suffolk, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, and Manhattan.
This past year saw our two major affordable housing complexes – Herkimer Gardens in Brooklyn and the Barbara Faron Residence in Far Rockaway, Queens – come to fruition after years in development. Together, these beautiful buildings added more than 200 units of affordable housing for seniors, individuals with disabilities, and other vulnerable community members. We also secured permits to move forward with the buildout of our new Anthony Angelo Medical Center in Wyandanch, which will allow us to expand the services offered at our current Wyandanch Wellness Center and integrate behavioral, substance use, and physical health services to treat individuals holistically.
To better serve our community, we launched new programs and expanded others over the last year. Through our partnership with New York State, we expanded our Safe Options Support (SOS) teams to combat homelessness in Brooklyn and Queens, as well as our Aging in Place program, which provides extra supports to help older residents in our non-licensed housing live as independently as possible as they age. We expanded evidence-based services through our OASAS (Outpatient Addiction Services and Support) program in Copiague to help adults, children, and families who are struggling with addiction to gain support and maintain sobriety. As a New York State-certified Opioid Overdose Prevention Provider (OOPP), we grew our OOPP program throughout the year, providing Narcan trainings and other life-saving services in New York City and Long Island. We also expanded our Mobile Substance Use Disorder (SUD) program and are preparing to roll out a fully equipped RV in 2024 to travel throughout Suffolk County to treat individuals suffering from opioid addiction.
On behalf of our Board of Directors, staff, and members, thank you for continuing to support us as we help people help themselves to achieve their goals.
With Gratitude,

Federation’s Clinical services empower both adults and children on their journey to recovery, providing unwavering support and guidance through treatment such individual and group therapy, medication assisted treatment, crisis intervention, and more. Our team is dedicated to ensuring individuals receive the treatment they need and deserve, whether that is through office visits, telehealth, home visits, or going out into the community to meet them where they are at.
“Federation’s services allowed me to get my life back, their team enabled me to return to myself, all within a comfortable, supportive environment.”
In order to serve more individuals and families, we needed to expand our Wyandanch Clinic! Soon to come, the Anthony Angelo Counseling Center, our new 8,000-square-foot building to be built in Wyandanch. With support from a $3 million NYS Department of Health grant, this new facility will feature a wellness center and a youth center, and offer integrated mental health, substance, use, and primary care coordination under one roof.

Federation's Substance Use and Addiction Recovery Services Expand
Federation’s OASAS program (Outpatient Addiction Services and Support) launched in January 2021 out of our Copiague location. Since then, we have expanded our evidence-based services to help adults, children, and families who are struggling with addiction to gain support and maintain sobriety. In addition to our substance use and addiction recovery services, which include Group Therapy, Toxicology Testing, Medication Management, Overdose Prevention Training, and more, we have rolled out incremental programs to further enhance what we are able to offer the community.
Our Mobile Substance Use Disorder (SUD) program focuses on serving the LGBTQIA+ population in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Though it specializes in providing support to this community, this mobile team of all-stars will help anybody looking for addiction treatment.
In 2024, we will finalize renovations to our fully equipped RV for our new Mobile Opioid Support Team (MOST), where our team will travel throughout Suffolk County treating those suffering from opioid addiction. The team has already begun outreach and had some successes in helping the community!
We are currently preparing for renovations to our Copiague Article 32 Outpatient Clinic, where we will launch and operate a methadone treatment clinic, Federation’s Opioid Treatment Program.

Opening of Barbara Faron Residence and Herkimer Gardens
Addressing the homelessness crisis and the dire need for affordable supportive housing, Federation added more than 200 affordable housing units and significantly expanded our Residential Program with the completion of two major brand-new developments. In 2023, we were thrilled to cut the ribbon on Herkimer Gardens, a 120-unit, eight-story complex in Brooklyn, which includes 60 units for New Yorkers ages 62 and older who need assistance to live independently. Supportive services include medication management, health services, case management, life skills training, socialization, wellness activities, and more. All units are affordable for households earning up to 80% of the Area Median Income. In Far Rockaway, Queens, we opened the doors of the Barbara Faron Residence, an eight-story, 118-unit affordable development. The property includes 71 units of supportive housing for individuals who are recovering from mental health conditions and who would otherwise have no permanent place to live. As with Herkimer, all units are affordable for households meeting income eligibility.

SAFE OPTIONS SUPPORT (SOS) TEAM MAKES AN IMPACT
Federation’s Safe Options Support (SOS) team is out in the field, providing a range of immediate support services to the homeless population. This NYC-based team launched in summer 2022 and has served over 4,000 individuals in under one year. This comprehensive community care includes providing food and clothing, first aid response, peer support for substance abuse, behavioral health counseling, skill-building support, and housing support.
The team has a number of success stories to this point. Their tireless efforts have secured housing for many individuals after years and years of homelessness, have put individuals on the path for addiction recovery and sobriety maintenance, and have reunited loved ones with their families. We’re excited for what the future holds for members of our community and Federation’s extraordinary team.
